What can business leaders learn from a team that must perform under pressure, make fast decisions and rely completely on one another?

On 24 September, we explored this question during the Executive Rugby Leadership Experience, organised by CCI France Hongrie/ Magyar-Francia Kereskedelmi és Iparkamara, Confindustria Ungheria and the BCCH / British Chamber of Commerce in Hungary, together with the management, coaches and former international players of Benetton Rugby Treviso.

This was not a traditional conference. Through interactive workshops and the Executive Challenge, CEOs and senior executives experienced first-hand how principles from elite sport can translate into business leadership.

Three key lessons stood out:

A team moves forward only when there is a shared direction and clear priorities. Being busy is not enough.

Good communication means giving others information they can act on immediately.

True teamwork means supporting others and removing obstacles from their path – just as in rugby, players position themselves to support the teammate carrying the ball.

And underlying it all is fair play: sharing credit, taking responsibility and showing respect, especially under pressure.

One message perfectly captured the spirit of the afternoon:

Leadership isn’t learned in comfort. It is built under pressure.
